Procal’s Indonesian distributor, PT Inter Pasific Cemerlang, have recently installed and commissioned three P200 NDIR in-situ emission monitoring gas analyzer probes at Indonesia Power’s Suralaya coal fired powerplant. At 3,400MW Suralaya is Indonesia’s biggest power station, and provides most of Jakarta’s power requirements.
A separate contract was awarded simultaneously to a US CEMS manufacturer for Stacks 1-2 and 3-4. Although these were installed before the Procal units they have not yet been commissioned and accepted. The Procal equipment is installed in Stacks 5, 6 and 7 and replaces German equipment which has not been working for many years. The analysers measure SO2, NO and NO2 using non-dispersive infra red absorption (NDIR) technology and display the readings on a PC running Procal ACWn for Windows software. Existing instruments for oxygen, dust and opacity are integrated into the Procal system. The main feature which attracted IP to Procal was the 5 year extended warranty offered on the P200 analyser system. This warranty is based on actual lifetimes being recorded at sites around the world of more than 8 to 10 years without the need for spare parts replacements. Such longevity is almost too good to be true for powerplant operators, who have reluctantly become accustomed to frequent downtimes and expensive spare part shopping lists for other CEM systems.
