Gases produced in the agricultural and livestock industries are both a contributor to global emissions levels but can have an adverse effect on the health of livestock. Protea's range of gas analyser can measure emissions of gases such as NH3, NOx, N2O, CH4, CO2 and VOCs to give values that operators can act on.
Protea's analysers can act as complete measurement centres for other auxiliary data from livestock industry, such as temperature, pressure, humidity and flow within barns, which can give operators or researchers a complete picture of the emissions profiles within barns.
NH3 Emissions From Livestock Enclosures
Ammonia (NH3) is formed from the breakdown of urea in slurry and manure, and hence this is the main source of NH3 emission in the UK. High levels of NH3 emissions can cause a large amount of environmental damage to vegetation. As well as the outward environmental impact, high NH3 concentrations in and around livestock enclosures have a detrimental effect on the health and well-being of the animals.
There are steps that farmers can take to control or reduce the NH3 emissions from slurry and manures, however the exact behaviour of the gaseous emissions within livestock enclosures is still an active area of research – as well as accurate NH concentration measurements, the modelling of the air flow, humidity, temperature etc. is also needed within the enclosures. Single spot gas measurements are of no use, there is a need for multipoint NH3 measurements around installations.
Protea has developed our Solus NH3 gas analyser to allow for multipoint NH3 measurements about livestock enclosures. The SolusT Multipoint, is provided in a robust transportable case for use on typical livestock enclosures. The analyser combines highly-accurate laser-based NH3 measurement with 10-way multipoint sampling, built-in pump and embedded PC controller. The analyser allows for the inputting of auxiliary data for temperature, humidity, CO2 and air flow to allow for a complete measurement system for livestock emissions.
